GenómicaWHAT IS AN INDEL POLYMORPHISM?

The term “InDel” is the common abbreviation for “insertion-deletion” in reference to the types of changes which can be found in a genomic sequence under study. The insertions and deletions are therefore a type of mutations which are based on the elimination or insertion of nucleotide bases (main molecules making up DNA) in certain regions of the DNA.

A large number of polymorphisms of consistent genetic variants in small-scale insertions/deletions are also referred to as DIP (Deletion-Insertion Polymorphisms).
